"It's not what happened, it's what happened after."
There are all too many things in our lives that we cannot control. That said, there is room to become empowered and gain composure when facing some of life's most challenging situations. I'm passionate about healing and find true meaning in supporting my clients in overcoming difficulties and learning more about oneself throughout that process.
My style is direct, down to earth and focuses on a collaborative approach. I want to support you by making the most of our time together, and work with you creating change that you can carry out in your everyday life. I offer traditional talk therapy, distance therapy (via phone or internet), as well as movement therapy.
I first discovered my love for helping others over fifteen years ago in an experiential environment, equine therapy. This was where I was introduced to healing through alternative environments, and it made complete sense to me. Since that time, I've worked in a variety of environments and have an eclectic range of experience from a homeless shelter practicing adventure therapy with adolescents. I spent numerous summers leading trips abroad, supporting the process of adolescents finding their place in the world, both literally and figuratively. I also spent several years working intensively with individuals overcoming addiction, as well as persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Most recently, I have found my passion around supporting women. From those navigating careers, relationships + motherhood, the need for women to be able to ground and find herself is becoming more crucial. In addition, I have been practicing distance therapy and have begun to combine these two in realizing the need, effectiveness and power that distance therapy holds.
Because of this broad range of experiences, I have the ability to modify my approach to meet your comfort level and preferences in how you want to reach your own goals.
My education was completed in the Midwest where I earned a BA in Sociology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and completed a Master of Social Work at Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois. In addition, I completed the LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities) at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) and a licensed addiction counselor (LAC) in the State of Colorado. I use numerous modalities with emphasis in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology and Motivational Interviewing.
